Origin Overlay: How to disable Origin Overlay and reduce high CPU usage

Origin overlay has grown to become a largely popular digital video-game distribution platform over the course of time.

Origin is developed by arguably the biggest gaming publisher of all time, Electronic Arts.

Origin is the database for all games published by EA, including Fifa by EA sports amongst other top gaming publishers.

Origin gives a close competition to Steam when it comes to having a vast library of purchasable games, however, Steam is regarded slightly higher in terms of popularity.

Origin is the official platform of EA meaning if you wish to digitally purchase games published by EA you can do it only through Origin overlay.

The overlay of Origin certainly has a few drawbacks. Many gamers have emailed its support team stating that the overlay unnecessarily demands high CPU usage while playing popular video games like Titanfall 2, Mass Effect: Andromeda, Battlefield 1, etc. on mid-range computer systems.

Following which games have complained about frequent crashes and frame drops two errors which are dreaded by every single video gamer.

The simple solution to reducing CPU load caused while gaming is to disable Origin’s In-Game Overlay.

Follow these steps to turn off Origin In-Game Overlay:
Firstly follow these steps to confirm is Origin In-Game Overlay is enabled or disabled.
Step 1: You will have to check if Origin In-Game Overlay is enabled, mostly it is enabled by default.
Step 2: Confirm if Origin In-Game is enabled. To do so, play any game using Origin Overlay and press ‘Shift+F1.
Step 3: This step has to be followed if Origin’s menu pops up on your screen while you’re in-game. That means that its Overlay is enabled.

If Origin In-game Overlay is enabled, you will have to disable it by following these simple steps
Step 1: Log in on the Origin desktop client using your EA account. You can log in on Windows or Mac device.

Step 2: After logging in, Click on ‘Origin’ located at the top-left corner of the window and look for ‘Application Settings.’

Step 3: From ‘Application settings select ‘more’ and then again select ‘Origin In-Game.’

Step 4: Disable Origin In-game Overlay by simply moving the slider.

Step 5: Confirm that you have successfully disabled Origin In-game Overlay, by pressing ‘Shift+F1 while playing a game.

The Origin Overlay will not pop up on your screen meaning it is disabled.

Why you should Turn Off Origin In-Game Overlay
The simple reason to turn off Origin In-Game Overlay is that it will Minimize CPU Load & Frame Drops that will give you a better gaming experience overall.
Sure, Origin In-Game Overlay is a pretty useful feature as it lets you chat with friends, accept party invites, and even broadcast gameplay but it comes at the cost of annoying gaming experience.
If you still wish to chat with friends, broadcast gameplay or accept party invites I would recommend minimizing the games and eliminating the need of Origin Overlay.
